The purpose of the Policy Development and Communication Statement is to guide the development of an Institute policy by providing a summary of the proposed policy and ensuring that those who might be affected by a policy are identified, considered, and consulted.

A member of the campus community, a Policy Owner or Champion, completes the Policy Development and Communication Statement and submits it along with any references or resources to the Policy Steering Committee via the Secretary of the Faculty (Academic Policy) or the Institute Policy Specialist (Administrative Policy). The Policy Steering Committee decides how to proceed with a new policy or revision to policy.

While it is the responsibility of the Policy Owner or Champion to draft a Policy Development and Communication Statement, the Policy Specialist can help with determining what information the Policy Owner or Champion needs to provide to the Policy Steering Committee.
